NEWCASTLE UNITED striker Adam Armstrong has joined League One side Blackburn Rovers on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at Championship side Bolton Wanderers, but struggled to hold down a place in Phil Parkinson's first-choice starting line-up.

He left the Macron Stadium having scored three goals in his 23 appearances.

Last season, Armstrong was on loan at Barnsley, where he scored six goals in 35 games – including the club’s Goal of the Season against Preston.

The England youth international also spent time at Coventry City in 2015-16, scoring 20 in 40 appearances and picking up a string of awards, including the Sky Blues' Young Player of the Year.

He joins a Blackburn side under the control of former Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray, which is currently sitting in third position in the League One table.
